54 “food-production sites”

profxm, September 26, 2009January 15, 2011

I caught this article about a peanut farm in Texas owned by the LDS Church. I’m wondering how much of the motivation for this story is my earlier post on the cattle ranch in Florida (ego stroke!). Anyway, the reporter for the story was able to get a number from the LDS Church on their total number of farming/ranching operations: 54. I’d love to have a list.

  1. Deseret Citrus and Cattle Ranch in Florida
  2. Ranch in Nebraska
  3. Peanut Farm in Texas
  4. Hunting Reserve (food production?) in Utah County

Only 50 more to go!

They mention how church welfare recipients have to work for what they receive. Curiously they don’t mention that they also have to pay tithing on anything they earn to stay eligible. They also don’t mention that Mormons in bankruptcy are allowed and encouraged to pay tithing.

I thought a few newspapers have previously done articles on these places. I’m guessing the press in general does not read MSP.
